About

Karen and Donald Blanshard acquired the beautiful Caracal Lodge in Mpumalanga in 2005, back then it was 300ha of land with only a tin roof farmhouse. With their love for nature coupled with the fact that they love to entertain, they set out to create Caracal Lodge as it is today…

A spectacular place to visit with 7 self-catering cottages and secluded Bush lodges with free roaming game. Caracal Lodge has all you could possibly need for the perfect get away – from hiking, 4x4 trails, fishing, swimming and relaxing at our Rooikat se Gat honesty bar.

We have a perfect picnic retreat at our crystal-clear mountain water waterfall – a 10-minute stroll from our new Impala and Bushbuck cottages.

Caracal Lodge is just an hour from Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga, making it the perfect over-night stay on your way to the Kruger National Park, but be warned that once you are there you might want stay more than just one night. Alternatively, stay with us and take a daytrip to Kruger during your stay.

Karen and Donald are passionate about their dog’s, so guests will be welcomed by the friendly pooches when arriving at Caracal Lodge. With that Caracal Lodge is pet friendly and guests are welcome to bring their pets along on holiday (*please just inform us when booking)

Karen and Donald spend their weekdays in Johannesburg but are at the farm regularly.

Caracal Lodge is managed by Donald’s brother Rob and Marilyn Blanshard who will give you a warm welcome with a free welcome drink, they will show you around and provide any information guests may need.

In loving memory Gerry, The Giraffe

Gerry was our gentle giant, who sadly passed away in 2017 through a tragic accident. He was the highlight for many of our guests as he just loved visitors and would walk right up to you for a good scratch! He would happily chaperon guest on walks around the farm.

Gerry became a talking point of Caracal Lodge around the world and in a sense made us famous. But Gerry did leave us with three of his offspring and Caracal lodge now has four of these majestic animals roaming the property (not as friendly as Gerry) but always visual and available for up close pictures.
